Mid Term Submission

For my cover I featured a photo of the American flag hung halfway up, showing the meaning behind the photo. This was taken on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Shooting. The title is also simple with a deeper meaning used to cause interest in those who would look at the cover. Each photo in these magazine pages were taken at Colonial Oaks Park during the rehearsals of a musical production that I am in. The magazine features information on abstract photography and theatre, using photos from a local theatre group's rehearsal. The goal was to have each page be simple and neat, with the same font and set-up throughout the magazine. The goal of the photos are to represent simplicity and meaning through everyday things, and the photos of rehearsal are simply to show what these teenagers work hard at.

Apollo Magazine

Apollo Magazine is an art magazine that is available online and in print, and every issue features a different artist for the majority of the magazine. Each issue has the work of the artist on the cover, with a simple title and subtexts, describing what will be featured in that particular issue. It highlights the best works of each artist and describes in detail the meaning of each piece of art. Also, it gives a multitude of reasons why each work is so unique and special through the eyes of the magazine writers.

The online magazine Contemporary Art Curator mostly shows art and photography that is abstract. The magazine being online leads to no cover, but the website features art like the one above the most. The setup of the website is simple, with white background behind the artwork. For the art descriptions and titles, the text is in black. The website is free and has many categories such as Street Art, Contemporary, Modern Art, Photography, and plenty more. The website gives information of every artist, ad truly opens up for the audience.

Aesthetica Magazine

Aesthetica Magazine is a magazine focused on detail. This magazine portrays images and art as colorful and creative. Aesthetica focuses on art and photography, and finds a way to bring the artistic eye into it. This certain cover features a model in a colorful, big outfit, as well as a very colorful background behind her. Her light pants contrast the dark colors behind her and makes for an eye-catching photo. The cover also has subtext of what to expect on the articles, as well as release date and issue number. The inside has photos that do not take up entire pages, as the rest will be writing or a white border. The writing within the articles correlates with the art and will give vague descriptions of the arts meaning.

There Magazine

There Magazine is a simplistic art and photography magazine, only featuring art and photos. Each issue has a different cover, always being simple and either art or a picture. These photos have a good balance between black and white and colored photos. It keeps the title (T)here in the top left corner and it will change color depending on the cover art. The cover as well as the inside have no subtext except for the artist's names or if the subtext applies to the art given, such as poetry or an explanation. The creators wanted to make an unedited, unbiased magazine featuring only original art from any and all places to come together and form one body of work. This magazine very clearly pursues the idea of art imitating life in its photos.

Playbill Magazine

Playbill National Magazine is a Broadway themed magazine that has all the latest information on casting, shows, and anything Broadway, Off-Broadway, and most international theater related. Every cover features an actor, or a few actors, that are in one of the articles in the magazine. This cover features two actors from Broadway's The Children, which is shown to be one of the articles by the subtext. Each issue has a new cover, with the lead(s) of the main article in the magazine. These covers vary in color depending on the photo,  but the subtext is almost always featured on the left. The last recorded distribution number of this magazine was 4,073,680. The magazine uses the iconic yellow Playbill color to highlight the names of the shows featured in the subtext, while the rest of the text is white. At the top under the title it has the date, volume, and issue number.

Project Selection- My Decision

     I have decided to commit to the magazine project. I believe that my ability to see things artistically will help in the set-up and execution of the magazine pages. I work quickly and efficiently while also focusing on what needs to be done. My project will either be about Sarasota High School Theater or about current political events. If it's about theater, I will interview actors in the school shows and the theater teachers. If it's about politics, I will interview people with different political views and set it up similarly to a debate article. I would categorize it as arts or politics depending on which one I decide to do. I have chosen to work alone because I know that it would be better for me to be able to set up the magazine in the ways that I would like to without having clashing opinions.

Project Selection- Film

     Film production is interesting because I am an actor. When it comes to stage production, there are vast differences between stage and film. Getting behind the scenes on film would be good for me because I could get into it. I also have the personality of a leader, which would make it easier to physically direct the actors. Previous experience in acting would help me assist the actors in what they need to do and how to do it. On the other hand, I am very independent. To do a film, you need a cast. Most of the time someone who works alone would not be able to pull off a film because they'd need a cast. I enjoy working alone, so the magazine would be easier for me to be able to make. Another challenge would be the stress that directing puts on someone, as seen in the Ferris Bueller's Day Off  documentary.

Project Selection- Magazine

     I believe the magazine is a good fit for me mostly because I'm interested in journalism. Having watched multiple series and movies about journalism and the news, it seems like something that would be a fun thing to be a part of and share with other people. For example, the HBO series The Newsroom has interested me the most in news production, especially on television. The movie All the President's Men has interested me the most in news on print. I believe I'm equipped with skills to be able to properly set up pages artistically and make them eye-catching and intriguing. A challenge for me would be finding people to interview for the articles. Many people that I know have the same opinions on subjects as me, so I'll need to leave my comfort zone so I can get the opinions I need. Another challenge would be showing individuality in the magazine and making sure not to look like a copycat. Also, if I do political topics then I would need to make sure that the magazine does not become a tabloid.
